Notice: AI & Automated Scoring
Your rights as a candidate
EditingTests.com is an editorial skills assessment platform. Click-based answers (multiple choice, true/false) are scored automatically. Open-response work — writing, editing, proofreading, MS Word document tasks — is reviewed by human eyes before the score is released to the employer.
How scoring works
- Multiple-choice and true/false answers (grammar test, industry-vocabulary test, MS Word Part A): scored automatically against the answer key. Instant results.
- Editing test, proofreading test, MS Word Part B: machine-scored against a master, then reviewed by human eyes before the score is released.
- Writing test: scored end-to-end by a trained human editor against a 100-point rubric with five weighted dimensions — Content (15), Structure (20), Style (15), Grammar (25), and Mechanics (25). There is no automated scoring step; every result is the product of human judgment.
What we do NOT do
- We do not use facial recognition, webcam monitoring, or biometric analysis.
- We do not make hiring decisions. We return an assessment score to the employer; they decide what to do with it.
- We do not train AI models on your test answers. Your submissions are used only to score and report on your assessment.
Your rights
- You may decline to take an automated assessment. We recommend telling the employer directly; they can almost always offer an alternative.
- You may request human re-review of any result - including click-based tests scored automatically - by emailing [email protected] with the subject line "Human re-review request". Please include the email address the invitation was sent to and the date you took the test.
- You may request a copy of your test data at [email protected] with the subject line "Data subject request".
- You may request deletion of your test data. Note that the employer may retain a copy of your score under their own retention policy.
- You may request correction if you believe your score contains a factual error.
Accommodations
If you need extended time, screen-reader compatibility, or any other accommodation, contact the employer who invited you, or email [email protected] with the subject line "Accessibility request". Extended-time arrangements are standard and will not affect your score.
Bias audits
No independent bias audit of our assessments has been carried out. We hold no demographic data about candidates — no race, gender, age or disability — so no scoring decision uses any such attribute, and we are not able to compute selection rates by protected class. Human reviewers follow a written rubric to minimise scorer variation. Our position in full, and what it means for employers subject to New York City Local Law 144, is set out on our bias auditing page.
Questions?
For any question about how our systems or our editors evaluate your test, email [email protected]. We respond within 5 business days.
