The Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (YRBS) is a national survey conducted biennially by the CDC to monitor priority health risk behaviors among students in grades 9-12. The survey covers six categories of behaviors: unintentional injuries and violence, tobacco use, alcohol and drug use, sexual behaviors, unhealthy dietary behaviors, and physical inactivity. YRBS data informs adolescent health policy, program development, and clinical practice guidelines. Healthcare providers use YRBS trends to understand population-level risk factors affecting their adolescent patients.
