Brady-tachy syndrome, also known as tachy-brady syndrome, is a specific manifestation of sick sinus syndrome where patients experience alternating episodes of bradycardia and tachycardia. The bradycardia is typically due to sinus node dysfunction, while the tachycardia often consists of atrial flutter or atrial fibrillation. This condition presents unique therapeutic challenges as antiarrhythmic medications used to control tachycardia may worsen bradycardia. Permanent pacemaker implantation is frequently required to allow safe use of rate-controlling medications.
