Left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) obstruction is a hemodynamic condition characterized by impedance to blood flow from the left ventricle to the aorta. This obstruction most commonly occurs in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy due to septal hypertrophy and systolic anterior motion of the mitral valve. The obstruction creates a pressure gradient that can be measured by echocardiography or cardiac catheterization. Symptoms may include dyspnea, chest pain, and syncope, particularly with exertion.
