Full Definition

Myocardial viability refers to the identification of dysfunctional but viable myocardium that has the potential for functional recovery following revascularization. Assessment methods include dobutamine stress echocardiography, cardiac MRI with late gadolinium enhancement, and nuclear imaging techniques such as PET or thallium SPECT. Identifying viable myocardium is crucial for determining whether patients with ischemic cardiomyopathy would benefit from revascularization rather than medical management alone.
