balanced turbo field echo

Philips proprietary name for balanced steady-state free precession MRI sequence used in cardiac cine imaging.

Full Definition

Balanced Turbo Field Echo (bTFE) is Philips' proprietary implementation of the balanced steady-state free precession MRI sequence used for cardiac cine imaging. Like other SSFP variants, bTFE provides excellent contrast between blood and myocardium while maintaining high temporal and spatial resolution suitable for cardiac function assessment. The sequence is optimized for cardiac applications with specific radiofrequency pulse designs and gradient schemes that minimize artifacts while maximizing blood-myocardium contrast. Understanding vendor-specific terminology is important for protocol standardization and cross-platform communication.

Usage

Usage note: Vendor-specific term; equivalent to TrueFISP (Siemens) or FIESTA (GE).
