MOLLI

Pronunciation: molly

Also written as: MOLLI — Modified Look-Locker Inversion Recovery

Modified Look-Locker inversion recovery sequence used for T1 mapping in cardiac MRI with motion correction capabilities.

Full Definition

Modified Look-Locker Inversion Recovery (MOLLI) is a cardiac MRI pulse sequence specifically designed for T1 mapping of the myocardium. The sequence uses multiple inversion recovery measurements with different inversion times, combined with motion correction algorithms to account for cardiac and respiratory motion. MOLLI provides rapid T1 mapping within a breath-hold, making it clinically practical for routine use. The technique samples multiple points along the T1 recovery curve and uses curve fitting to calculate accurate T1 relaxation times for each pixel in the image.

Usage

Usage note: Pronounce as 'molly' not as individual letters.

In Context

  • "MOLLI T1 mapping was performed in short-axis planes to assess for diffuse myocardial disease." — Cardiac MRI protocol
  • "The MOLLI sequence successfully acquired T1 maps despite irregular heart rhythm." — Technical imaging report
