Full Definition

A regadenoson stress test is a pharmacological cardiac stress testing procedure that uses regadenoson, a selective A2A adenosine receptor agonist, to induce coronary vasodilation for perfusion imaging. Unlike adenosine, regadenoson has a more favorable side effect profile with fewer contraindications, making it suitable for patients with reactive airway disease. The drug is administered as a single bolus injection followed by saline flush, and its effects last approximately 2-4 minutes. Regadenoson stress testing is commonly used with nuclear perfusion imaging and cardiac MRI to detect coronary artery disease and assess myocardial perfusion reserve.
