The normal relationship between the morphological and functional characteristics of the right and left ventricles in congenital heart disease evaluation.

Full Definition

Ventricular concordance refers to the appropriate alignment between ventricular morphology and connection patterns in the assessment of complex congenital heart disease. In normal hearts, there is atrioventricular concordance where the morphological right atrium connects to the morphological right ventricle, and the morphological left atrium connects to the morphological left ventricle. Additionally, there is ventriculoarterial concordance where the right ventricle connects to the pulmonary artery and the left ventricle to the aorta. Discordance in these relationships defines various congenital anomalies such as transposition of the great arteries or corrected transposition. Understanding concordance relationships is essential for accurate diagnosis and surgical planning in complex congenital heart disease.
