Linear Threading Technique

An injection method in which filler is deposited in a continuous line along a cannula or needle tract as the instrument is withdrawn.

Full Definition

The linear threading technique is a standard filler injection method whereby the needle or cannula is advanced to the distal point of the intended treatment area, and filler is deposited in a continuous retrograde thread as the instrument is slowly withdrawn. This creates an even column of product along the treatment vector. Variations include anterograde threading, where product is deposited on the forward pass. Editors should verify whether an author specifies 'retrograde' or 'anterograde' linear threading, as these are meaningfully distinct sub-techniques. The term should not be conflated with the 'bolus technique,' which deposits product at a single point.

Usage note: Specify the direction (retrograde vs anterograde) wherever clinically relevant. Do not abbreviate to 'threading' without prior definition in a document.
