Anastomotic leak refers to the failure of a surgical connection (anastomosis) between two vessel segments, leading to blood extravasation at the suture line. Anastomotic leaks may present as immediate bleeding during surgery or as delayed complications manifesting as pseudoaneurysm formation, hemorrhage, or hemodynamic instability. Risk factors include poor tissue quality, infection, technical factors, and excessive tension at the anastomosis.
