Full Definition

Aortic stent graft migration refers to the displacement of an endovascularly placed aortic stent graft from its intended position within the aorta. This complication can occur in both thoracic and abdominal endovascular repairs and may result from inadequate fixation, progressive aortic remodeling, device oversizing, or progression of underlying aortic disease. Migration is typically classified by direction (proximal or distal) and magnitude, with displacement greater than 10mm generally considered clinically significant. The condition may lead to Type I endoleak, loss of branch vessel coverage, or inadequate aneurysm exclusion. Prevention strategies include proper sizing, adequate seal zones, and appropriate device selection, while treatment may require additional stent grafts, open surgical conversion, or balloon molding.
