An endovascular technique using custom grafts with openings to preserve blood flow to visceral arteries during aneurysm repair.

Full Definition

Fenestrated endovascular aortic repair (FEVAR) is an advanced endovascular technique that uses specially designed stent grafts with openings (fenestrations) to maintain perfusion to visceral arteries while treating complex aortic aneurysms. These custom-made grafts allow treatment of aneurysms that extend to or involve the origins of the celiac, superior mesenteric, and renal arteries, which would otherwise require open surgical repair. FEVAR requires precise preoperative imaging and planning, with each graft individually manufactured based on patient-specific anatomy. The technique has expanded the applicability of endovascular repair to more complex aneurysm morphologies.
