Aortic intramural hematoma is characterized by bleeding within the medial layer of the aortic wall without an identifiable intimal tear or communication between lumens. It represents a variant of acute aortic syndrome and may progress to frank dissection or rupture. Unlike classic dissection, there is no false lumen visible on imaging, but the condition carries similar risks and management considerations based on location and extent.
