Full Definition

Catheter-directed thrombolysis (CDT) is an interventional procedure that involves the percutaneous placement of a catheter directly into or adjacent to an arterial thrombus for local delivery of thrombolytic medications. This technique allows for higher local concentrations of fibrinolytic agents while minimizing systemic exposure and associated bleeding risks. The procedure is commonly performed for acute limb ischemia, stroke, and other thrombotic occlusions. Multi-sidehole catheters are typically used to ensure uniform drug distribution throughout the clot. Treatment duration varies but often requires 12-48 hours of continuous infusion with periodic angiographic assessment.
