MR angiography (MRA) utilizes magnetic resonance imaging technology to create detailed images of blood vessels without the need for ionizing radiation or invasive catheterization. The technique can be performed with or without gadolinium-based contrast agents, using various pulse sequences including time-of-flight and phase-contrast methods. MRA is particularly useful for imaging intracranial vessels, renal arteries, and peripheral vasculature. While it provides excellent soft tissue contrast and functional information about blood flow, MRA may be limited by motion artifacts and longer acquisition times compared to CT angiography.
