Auditory brainstem response (ABR) testing is an objective neurophysiological assessment that records electrical activity generated by the auditory nerve and brainstem pathways in response to auditory stimuli. The test produces waveforms that indicate hearing thresholds and can detect retrocochlear pathology. ABR is essential for infant hearing screenings, surgical monitoring, and diagnosing acoustic neuromas or other neural disorders affecting hearing.
