Loudness Discomfort Level (LDL) is the lowest intensity at which a patient consistently reports a sound as uncomfortably loud during audiological evaluation. It is measured in dB HL and plays a critical role in setting the maximum power output (MPO) of hearing aids to prevent over-amplification. Editors should note that LDL and Uncomfortable Loudness Level (ULL) are used interchangeably in many clinical documents, though some style guides treat them as subtly distinct measures. The term should be consistently capitalised when used as a proper test name. Do not confuse with 'most comfortable level' (MCL), which represents the preferred listening level rather than the discomfort boundary.
