Jejunojejunostomy is the side-to-side or end-to-side anastomosis between two portions of the jejunum that creates the Y-shaped Roux configuration in gastric bypass surgery. This connection joins the alimentary limb (carrying food) with the biliopancreatic limb (carrying digestive enzymes) to form the common channel where normal digestion resumes. The jejunojejunostomy is typically performed 75-150 cm distal to the gastrojejunostomy and is crucial for the proper functioning of the bypass anatomy.
