Full Definition

Integra is a FDA-approved bilayer membrane consisting of a porous matrix of cross-linked bovine tendon collagen and glycosaminoglycan covered by a thin polysiloxane layer. It serves as a dermal substitute that allows patient cells to populate the matrix while the silicone layer provides temporary epidermal barrier function. This product is commonly used in extensive burn reconstruction when sufficient autograft donor sites are limited.
