Synthetic substitutes provide immediate wound coverage, reduce pain, prevent infection, and may promote healing by providing a scaffold for tissue regeneration. They are particularly valuable when autologous skin is unavailable due to extensive burns or when traditional grafting is not immediately feasible. Examples include various collagen-based matrices, synthetic polymer dressings, and bioengineered skin constructs.
