Intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) involves inserting an ultrasound transducer on a catheter into the heart to provide real-time imaging during electrophysiology procedures. This technique allows operators to visualize cardiac anatomy, monitor catheter positioning, assess tissue contact, and detect complications such as pericardial effusion. ICE is particularly valuable during complex ablation procedures where precise catheter navigation and tissue visualization are critical. The technology has largely replaced transesophageal echocardiography in many EP labs due to its superior image quality and reduced patient discomfort.
