Apical ballooning syndrome, also known as takotsubo cardiomyopathy or stress cardiomyopathy, presents with acute chest pain and ECG changes mimicking myocardial infarction but without significant coronary artery disease. The condition is characterized by distinctive wall motion abnormalities affecting the left ventricular apex, creating a balloon-like appearance on imaging. It is often triggered by emotional or physical stress and typically shows complete recovery of ventricular function within weeks to months.
