Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Dysplasia (ARVD), also known as arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC), is an inherited heart muscle disorder characterized by progressive replacement of right ventricular myocardium with fibrofatty tissue. This condition leads to ventricular arrhythmias, sudden cardiac death risk, and progressive right heart failure. Cardiac imaging plays a crucial role in diagnosis, showing regional wall motion abnormalities, ventricular dilation, and characteristic morphological changes. MRI with late gadolinium enhancement can detect fibrofatty infiltration patterns specific to this condition.

Usage note: ARVC (cardiomyopathy) is increasingly preferred over ARVD (dysplasia) in current nomenclature.
