Intraventricular conduction delay refers to delayed or abnormal electrical conduction within the ventricular myocardium, resulting in dyssynchronous ventricular contraction. IVCD can manifest as left bundle branch block (LBBB), right bundle branch block (RBBB), or nonspecific conduction delays. In cardiac imaging, IVCD is important because it affects myocardial mechanics and can lead to heart failure. Echocardiographic assessment of mechanical dyssynchrony in patients with IVCD helps guide cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) decisions. Advanced imaging techniques like strain imaging and tissue Doppler can quantify the degree of mechanical dyssynchrony.
