T1 mapping
A quantitative cardiac MRI technique that measures tissue relaxation time to assess myocardial fibrosis and infiltrative disease.
Full Definition
T1 mapping is a cardiac magnetic resonance imaging technique that quantifies the T1 relaxation time of myocardial tissue on a pixel-by-pixel basis. This method allows for the detection and quantification of diffuse myocardial fibrosis, edema, and infiltrative diseases such as amyloidosis. Native T1 values can be measured without contrast, while post-contrast T1 mapping combined with pre-contrast values enables calculation of extracellular volume fraction. The technique has become increasingly important in the diagnosis and monitoring of cardiomyopathies.
Usage
Usage note: Always specify whether native or post-contrast T1 mapping is being performed.
