Endocarditis prophylaxis refers to the administration of prophylactic antibiotics to prevent infective endocarditis in patients with specific cardiac conditions who are undergoing procedures that may cause bacteremia. Current guidelines limit prophylaxis recommendations to patients with the highest risk cardiac conditions, including prosthetic valves, previous endocarditis, certain congenital heart diseases, and cardiac transplant recipients with valvulopathy.
