Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) is a non-invasive diagnostic tool that provides high-resolution images of cardiac anatomy, function, and tissue characteristics. It is considered the gold standard for assessing ventricular volumes, ejection fraction, and myocardial mass. CMR can detect myocardial fibrosis, inflammation, and infiltrative diseases through tissue characterization techniques. The procedure requires no ionizing radiation and provides excellent soft tissue contrast, making it particularly valuable for complex congenital heart disease and cardiomyopathy evaluation.
