TAPSE
Also written as: TAPSE — tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion
Tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion, an echocardiographic measurement of right ventricular systolic function.
Full Definition
TAPSE measures the systolic excursion of the tricuspid annulus toward the cardiac apex using M-mode echocardiography. Normal TAPSE values are typically >17 mm, with reduced values indicating right ventricular systolic dysfunction. This parameter is particularly valuable in assessing right heart function in conditions such as pulmonary hypertension, right heart failure, and congenital heart disease. TAPSE correlates well with right ventricular ejection fraction measured by other imaging modalities and serves as an important prognostic indicator in various cardiac conditions.
Usage
Usage note: Always include units (mm) when reporting TAPSE values.
