Full Definition
The CANVAS (Canagliflozin Cardiovascular Assessment Study) program comprised two sister trials (CANVAS and CANVAS-R) that collectively enrolled over 10,000 patients with type 2 diabetes at high cardiovascular risk. The program demonstrated that canagliflozin significantly reduced the risk of cardiovascular death, non-fatal myocardial infarction, and non-fatal stroke compared to placebo. However, the trial also identified an increased risk of lower limb amputation, leading to important safety considerations in clinical practice guidelines for SGLT2 inhibitor use.
