Aortic root abscess is a serious complication of infective endocarditis or cardiac surgery involving localized purulent infection in the aortic root area. The abscess can extend into surrounding structures including the interventricular septum, mitral valve, or pericardium. Diagnosis requires high index of suspicion with transesophageal echocardiography being the primary imaging modality. Surgical intervention is usually required for debridement and reconstruction, often necessitating complex procedures including patch repair or homograft replacement.
