A measure of myocardial deformation in the short-axis plane, representing the percentage change in circumference during the cardiac cycle.

Full Definition

Circumferential strain quantifies the shortening or lengthening of myocardial fibers oriented circumferentially around the left ventricle. This parameter is measured in the short-axis plane and expressed as a percentage, with normal values typically ranging from -15% to -25%. Circumferential strain is considered one of the most reproducible strain parameters and provides valuable information about regional and global myocardial function, particularly in conditions affecting the mid-wall myocardial layers.

Usage

Usage note: Should not be confused with radial or longitudinal strain measurements.
