Myocardial work represents a novel non-invasive method for evaluating cardiac function that combines speckle tracking strain imaging with blood pressure measurements to estimate the work performed by the left ventricle. This technique provides four key parameters: global work index, global constructive work, global wasted work, and global work efficiency. By incorporating afterload into the analysis, myocardial work offers superior assessment of myocardial performance compared to strain alone, particularly useful in detecting subtle ischemia and monitoring treatment response.
