CCTA

Also written as: CCTA — Coronary Computed Tomography Angiography

Non-invasive CT imaging of coronary arteries using contrast enhancement and cardiac gating.

Full Definition

Coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) is a non-invasive imaging technique that combines ECG-gated CT acquisition with intravenous contrast administration to visualize coronary arteries and assess for stenosis, plaque burden, and morphology. The examination requires precise timing of contrast injection, optimal heart rate control (typically <65 bpm), and radiation dose optimization. CCTA has high negative predictive value for excluding coronary artery disease and is increasingly used for initial evaluation of chest pain.

Usage

Usage note: Distinguish from general CTA which may refer to any CT angiography study.

In Context

  • "CCTA demonstrated no significant coronary stenosis, ruling out obstructive disease." — Radiology report
  • "Patient preparation for CCTA included beta-blocker administration for heart rate control." — Imaging protocol
