Cardiogenic shock is a critical cardiovascular emergency characterized by severe impairment of cardiac output resulting in inadequate tissue perfusion and organ dysfunction. In cardiovascular surgery, it may develop as a complication of acute myocardial infarction, failed cardiac procedures, or mechanical complications. Management often requires immediate mechanical circulatory support and may necessitate emergency revascularization or valve repair procedures.
