A cortical malformation resulting from abnormal neuronal migration during brain development, characterized by fewer than normal gyri that are abnormally thick and broadly spaced. This condition represents an intermediate form of lissencephaly, falling between normal cortical development and complete agyria. Pachygyria typically presents with developmental delays, seizures, and intellectual disability, with severity depending on the extent of cortical involvement. The condition can be focal or diffuse and may be associated with various genetic syndromes.
