Cohesive gel implants, commonly known as 'gummy bear' implants, contain highly cross-linked silicone gel that maintains its cohesive properties even if the implant shell is damaged. The gel is firmer than traditional silicone and is designed to hold its shape without spreading if the implant ruptures. These implants often have an anatomical shape and require textured surfaces to prevent rotation. The cohesive gel technology was developed to address concerns about silicone migration while providing a natural feel. However, the firmer consistency may feel less natural than traditional silicone gel, and the association with textured surfaces has raised BIA-ALCL concerns.
