SGAP flap
Also written as: SGAP — superior gluteal artery perforator
Superior gluteal artery perforator flap used for breast reconstruction from upper buttock tissue.
Full Definition
A microsurgical breast reconstruction technique that utilizes tissue from the upper buttock region while preserving the underlying gluteal muscle. The SGAP flap is based on perforating blood vessels from the superior gluteal artery and provides an alternative reconstruction option for patients who lack sufficient abdominal tissue or have had previous abdominal surgery. The procedure requires advanced microsurgical skills to reconnect blood vessels and typically results in a well-hidden scar along the upper buttock area.
Usage
Usage note: Distinguish from IGAP (inferior gluteal artery perforator) flap.
