Immediate provisionalization refers to the delivery of a provisional (temporary) crown or bridge to an implant within 24 hours of surgical placement, typically without applying occlusal load (non-occlusal loading) or sometimes with controlled occlusal contacts. Its primary benefits include aesthetics, soft-tissue contouring, and patient satisfaction. Editors should not confuse this term with 'immediate loading', which implies functional occlusal contacts from day one. Immediate provisionalization is particularly relevant in the anterior aesthetic zone and is frequently described in case series and randomised controlled trials assessing soft-tissue outcomes. Authors often use these terms interchangeably in error, which editors should flag.
