Full Definition
The White Aesthetic Score (WES), introduced by Belser et al. (2009), evaluates five crown-related criteria: tooth form, tooth volume/outline, tooth colour (hue/value), surface texture, and translucency/characterisation. Each criterion is scored 0–2 for a maximum of 10. Editors must note that WES evaluates the prosthetic crown, whereas the Pink Aesthetic Score evaluates surrounding soft tissue — the two are complementary indices often reported together. Capitalise as a proper noun in all registers. Authors frequently conflate WES data with PAS data; editors should flag any table or narrative in which the scores appear to be merged.
