A retentive hole or undercut feature built into the base of a porcelain tooth, used to mechanically lock the tooth into a denture base resin.

Full Definition

A diatoric (also spelled 'diatorique' in older texts) is a small retentive aperture or channel present on the tissue-facing surface of prefabricated porcelain denture teeth. During denture construction, the liquid acrylic resin flows into these recesses and polymerizes, creating a mechanical bond between the tooth and the denture base. Unlike acrylic teeth, which bond chemically to the base, porcelain teeth rely on the diatoric for retention. Dental technicians must ensure the diatoric is properly oriented before processing.
