Flowable composites are resin composites formulated with a reduced filler volume fraction (typically 40–60 vol%) and increased resin matrix content compared with conventional composites, yielding a paste that flows readily under low pressure. This reduced viscosity facilitates adaptation to complex cavity geometries, undercut areas, and cervical lesions, but the lower filler loading generally results in inferior wear resistance and greater polymerisation shrinkage compared with packable composites. Editors should distinguish 'flowable composite' from 'packable composite' and 'injectable composite,' as the latter is a newer marketing category with overlapping but not identical properties. The term 'flowable' should not be used as a universal descriptor for all low-viscosity resins.
