Digital subtraction radiography (DSR) enhances the detection of minor changes between sequential radiographs by electronically removing identical structures and highlighting only the differences. When images are perfectly superimposed, unchanged structures cancel out, leaving only new or resolving lesions visible as bright or dark regions. The technique is particularly valuable in monitoring periodontal bone loss, periapical healing, and caries progression.
