Radiovisiography (RVG) was the first commercially marketed direct digital intraoral radiography system, introduced in 1987, and the term is sometimes used generically for all direct digital intraoral systems, though this is technically inaccurate. The system employs a charge-coupled device (CCD) or complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) sensor connected to a computer, enabling near-instant image display, dose reduction, and digital manipulation.
