Pogonion (abbreviated Pog or Po) is a cephalometric hard-tissue landmark located at the most forward projecting point of the bony chin in the midsagittal plane. It is distinct from the soft-tissue equivalent, labelled soft-tissue pogonion (Pog'), which lies on the skin surface. Pogonion is used in numerous linear and angular measurements to evaluate chin position relative to the maxilla, nasion, and other landmarks. Editors reviewing cephalometric reports should ensure the abbreviation Pog is not conflated with Po (porion) or with the soft-tissue variant.

Usage note: Always capitalise Pogonion when referring to the landmark; the abbreviation is Pog (not PG or POG). Distinguish clearly from soft-tissue pogonion (Pog').
