Rare, slow-growing malignant skin tumor with high local recurrence rate if incompletely excised.
Full Definition
A rare malignant soft tissue sarcoma that arises in the dermis and subcutaneous tissue. Despite being malignant, it grows slowly and rarely metastasizes, but has a very high rate of local recurrence if not completely excised with wide margins. The tumor typically presents as a firm, painless nodule or plaque that may be mistaken for a benign lesion. Complete surgical excision with negative margins is the treatment of choice, often requiring Mohs surgery or wide local excision.
