Digital mucous cyst is a common benign cystic lesion that typically arises from the proximal nail fold or dorsal finger near the distal interphalangeal joint. These cysts often communicate with the underlying joint space and contain viscous, gelatinous fluid. They may cause nail deformity through pressure on the nail matrix and can be symptomatic due to their prominent location. Surgical treatment involves complete excision of the cyst wall and closure of any joint communication, often combined with removal of associated dorsal osteophytes to prevent recurrence.
