FTSG

Also written as: FTSG — Full-Thickness Skin Graft

Full-thickness skin graft containing epidermis and full dermis, commonly abbreviated in surgical documentation.

Full Definition

FTSG refers to a full-thickness skin graft that includes the entire epidermis and dermis, harvested from a donor site and transplanted to cover a surgical defect. Unlike split-thickness grafts, FTSGs provide better cosmetic results, less contracture, and superior durability but require well-vascularized recipient beds for successful take. Common donor sites include the postauricular area, supraclavicular region, and groin. The abbreviation is frequently used in operative reports and wound care documentation.

Usage

Usage note: Always spelled out on first use in formal documentation, then abbreviated as FTSG.
