Pilomatrixoma is a benign tumor arising from hair follicle matrix cells, most commonly presenting as a solitary, firm, calcified nodule in children and young adults. The tumor characteristically occurs on the head, neck, or upper extremities and may demonstrate a tent sign when the overlying skin is stretched. Complete surgical excision is the treatment of choice, as incomplete removal may lead to recurrence. The tumor has a characteristic histologic appearance with ghost cells and foreign body giant cell reaction, making pathologic confirmation valuable for definitive diagnosis.
