DFSP (dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans) is a locally aggressive cutaneous sarcoma arising from dermal fibroblasts, characterised histologically by a storiform pattern of spindle cells and positivity for CD34 on immunohistochemistry. It typically presents as a slow-growing plaque or nodular mass on the trunk or proximal extremities. Wide local excision or Mohs micrographic surgery is the standard treatment due to its high local recurrence potential. Editors should always expand the acronym at first mention and must not conflate it with the benign dermatofibroma. DFSP appears in oncology, dermatopathology, and surgical reports.
